Facts about Tribal Professional Development Pathways

These development pathways were designed to be short-term employment opportunities open to Tribal Citizens and family members at least 18 years old (21 for Casino)

There are four program paths: Executive Insights, Discover, Explore and Internship. Each path has designated length of time between, self-paced to 14 weeks and can be either full or part-time

Tribal Professional Development Program

Department of Public Safety

The San Manuel Department of Public Safety is dedicated to the protecting Tribal Community, its guests and patrons from any harm or threats, along with the Reservation, Casino and other property. Public Safety is the largest Tribal Public Safety Agency with close to 375 employees who respond to thousands of service calls, annually, and also includes and Bomb and Arson K-9 Detection Team and a no-kill animal shelter.

The San Manuel Education Department promotes cultural, academic, and career education and development for all San Manuel Tribal families.

Fire Department

The San Manuel Fire Department provides emergency and non-emergency services to protect the lives and property of Tribal Citizens, employees, patrons, and guests of the San Manuel reservation, and to safeguard environmental, cultural and economic resources.

The department is called upon to ensure fire safety on the reservation and to protect the lives of those within the community. The Department is also responsible for development and maintenance of innovative prevention programs and strategies, as well as life-saving safety education and training for our community.

Food & Beverage Department

The Food & Beverage Department is responsible for delivering quality dining experiences for guests of San Manuel Casino, as well as supporting the catering needs of our Tribe and Tribal Government Operations departments. The department works throughout its diverse venues to maximize revenues and profits while maintaining high quality food and beverage standards.

Information Technology (IT) Department

The Information Technology (IT) Department leads all aspects of the enterprises’ technology systems across the San Manuel Enterprise. The department develops and manages scalable, cost-effective enterprise IT systems and solutions in support of key business objectives.

Intergovernmental Affairs

The Office of Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) enhances, promotes and protects the sovereignty of San Manuel and other Native American governments.

IGA works with Tribal leadership on federal, state, and local legislation, while keeping Tribal leadership informed of any proposed public policy initiatives that could involve the community.

Slot Department

The Slot Department oversees operations with a primary focus on maximizing slot gaming revenue and the guest experience. The department directs the growth of revenue through a demonstrated knowledge of the slot industry, electronic gaming machines, related equipment, products, features, setup and configurations.

Strategic Philanthropy Department

The Strategic Philanthropy Department works collaboratively with nonprofits, funders and other tribal governments to create change within the Tribe’s ancestral territory and in Indian Country.

Table Games Department

The Table Games Department operates 95 tables on site with 10 different gaming options all while creating that All Thrill experience. The department does more than deal cards and chips, it is also about building relationships with guests.

Cultural Resources Management Department

The Cultural Resources Management Department works to establish and implement strategic and programmatic policies and actions to protect, maintain, and promote Serrano cultural resources, using traditional and contemporary principles and practices pertaining to indigenous heritage stewardship.

Human Resources Department

The Human Resources team is responsible for recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring team members for San Manuel Tribal Government Operations and San Manuel Casino, as well as providing administrative support to Bear Springs Hotel. 

They also handle employee relations, benefits and training. The team consults with executives and other leaders on organizational design strategies and other initiatives that link the values of the San Manuel enterprise with its employees.

Information Security Department

The Information Security Department works to protect the Casino and Tribal Community from cyber-related incidents. The department enables the enterprise to develop modern business practices that rely on the enterprise to securely conduct operations.

Legal Department

The Legal Department provides our Tribe with a broad range of judicial, legislative and administrative rule-making support, as well as formulation of governmental and business strategic planning, risk management, and evaluation of new ventures, acquisitions, and major investment proposals.

The Marketing Department works collaboratively with other marketing sub-departments to establish advertising materials, to include print, broadcast, out of home and online collateral pieces, to promote the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and San Manuel Casino.

Tribal Family Services Department

Tribal Family Services’ goal is to offer services from a holistic and culturally informed approach that focuses on the prevention of poverty (health, mental, social, cultural, spiritual, etc.) and to provide services (prevention, early intervention, and specialized services) to improve and enhance the quality and longevity of life to the Tribal community members of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
